Susan Dickstein, is a licensed clinical psychologist and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Brown Medical School, Departments of Psychiatry and Human Behavior and Pediatrics. For 2 decades, Dr. Dickstein was director of the Bradley Hospital Early Childhood Clinical Research Center and collaborated on research on developmental psychopathology, attachment theory, family functioning and risk, maternal depression, and early childhood mental health. Dr. Dickstein participated in systems-focused research aimed at building social-behavioral capacities into pediatric and childcare systems to promote and integrate physical and behavioral health wellness. She co-developed an online training course, Foundations for Infant/Toddler Mental Health and Development, versions of which are accessible to providers and parents, both in English and Spanish.
Dr. Dickstein is a founding member, past Board President, and current Executive Director of the Rhode Island Association for Infant Mental Health (RIAIMH). RIAIMH offers opportunities for the workforce to engage in professional development and training, community connection, reflective consultation, and IECMH Endorsement® credentialing, all aligned with infant mental health diversity-informed tenets. Dr. Dickstein is also a founding member and past President of the Board of the international Alliance for the Advancement of Infant Mental Health. She has earned Endorsement® as an Infant Mental Health Clinical Mentor, an internationally recognized credential. Dr. Dickstein offers reflective supervision/consultation and training as part of a relationship-based mentoring strategy designed to enhance providers’ wellbeing and quality of practice. She believes that when parents and providers are well supported, babies thrive.
