Description: A child’s brain undergoes an amazing period of development from birth to three—producing more than a million neural connections each second. Delve into key concepts such as the brain as a “social organ,” emotional exchange through “serve & return,” and the “schema-of-being-with”, as they relate to neural development. Examine how the limbic system and executive functioning are mediated and buffered within the context of relationships in infancy and early childhood.
This session will include a 30 minute overview of policy implications and considerations related to the session topic and discussion with national policy leaders at the National Center for Children in Poverty.
Featured speakers:
- Noelle Hause, Senior IECMH Manager, Zero to Three
- Sheila Smith, Director & Daniel Ferguson, Senior Policy Analyst, National Center for Children in Poverty
