Session #1:
Approaches to Working with Substance Exposed Newborns
and their Families
Tuesday, March 12, 2024
Description: During this session, participants will hear from professionals in RI who specialize in providing care to infants who have experienced substance exposure and their families. The session will highlight 3 programs associated with Women and Infants Hospital: Moms MATTER, the Family Care Unit, and the Family Care Follow-Up Clinic. These programs work together to support infants and families from the prenatal period through the transition home and beyond. A history and description of the programs will be shared, along with examples of research and evidence that supports the efficacy of the program model as Trauma Informed Care for infants and families. The speakers will share examples of how the program "keeps babies in mind" and honors families, communities, and culture. The discussion will include an opportunity for small group discussion and questions and answer session with each program.
Guest speakers: Anupriya Gogne, MBBS, MD, Joseph M. McNamara, MD, Lynne Andreozzi Fontaine, PhD, Melissa Moreau, MSN, RN, NP-C, IBCLC, Erica Oliveira, BA, CCHW, Jean Twomey, PhD
