The Power of Cultural Routines and Reflection

Family routines, celebrations, and rituals serve as powerful organizers of family life and stability for infants and young children during times of stress. In the Keynote address, Drs. Marva Lewis and Deborah Weatherston will present a theoretical overview, and applied analysis of several video clips of hair combing interaction, the introduction of tools to support interaction and understanding, and opportunities for critical self-reflection through a racialized lens. This will be followed by an afternoon workshop centered on critical self-awareness related to relationship-based, reflective practices, and will include experiential opportunities.
